Lunch of Fate was born at Showit, a software company where we value healthy relationships and shared experiences. Conversation seems to flow a little more naturally over a meal than anywhere else, and from the company’s inception, our CEO was generous enough to take everyone out to lunch once a week. When we were a smaller team, it wasn’t that hard to get a table for 8-12 people, depending on the restaurant we went to. But as we continued to grow, we realized that 1) it was hard to find a place that would seat 20+ people without making prior arrangements, and 2) each person at the (very long) table would only end up talking to 3-4 people. So we decided to mix it up by breaking the staff into randomly-chosen smaller teams of 4-6 people. To add even more chaos, we opted to choose the restaurants randomly. And because we apparently enjoyed torturing ourselves, the restaurants would range widely in quality. You might enjoy a bougie steakhouse, or you could get sent to a place on the corner with a drive thru and condemned play area. Either way it would be memorable.
