Cultivate meaningful relationships at work without trust falls or coal walking
Lunch of Fate is a fun way to cultivate relationships through shared experiences of dining together with coworkers at local restaurants.
Cultivating a healthy team culture is hard. Due to more stringent regulations, trust falls and coal walking are no longer approved activities by most insurance companies. Also, social media has ironically made us less social when we’re physically present with each other. Real, face-to-face conversation has become less common in our society but we still see the value in it, particularly in the satisfaction people find in their work. We’ve also observed that it flows a little more naturally over a meal than anywhere else.
So even if you don’t try this crazy Lunch of Fate thing, share a meal with some people you work with on a regular basis (and keep your phone in your pocket).
Lunch of Fate is like a roller coaster. When your co-workers walk into the room for Lunch of Fate, there tends to be a clear mix of emotions: anywhere between excited anticipation to sheer terror. Interestingly, the expressions after the meal (or rollercoaster) can be anything between euphoric and utter nausea. Either way, everyone comes back to play the following week.

It's really quite simple (until you get into the nuances of modifiers, and when they can be played, and understanding that playing one against another team can put a target on your back)
"Lunch of Fate is super fun! I look forward to it every week, and I've gotten to know so many of my co-workers. Like, seriously, I used to think they were all total losers, but now I genuinely appreciate them and I've become a better person by associating with people way below me."

"I love to eat so much. I don't care where we go. If there's food there, I'm in! And I love going with other people because we can talk about eating the food. I've also gotten way more understandable when I'm talking while there's still food in my mouth. It's taken some practice, but I'm getting quite articulate."

"Ever since my company started Lunch of Fate, I've gotten to know the others on my team really well. I like most of them. But I do kind of dread getting put on the same team with that guy Chad. Bro talks with his mouth full all the time and it's totally ick."

"Before Lunch of Fate was introduced at our business I had major anxiety about eating with other people. Some of them eat with their hands like neanderthals. I mean, come on, is it that hard to use a fork and knife to eat your sandwich? Anyways, my therapist encouraged me to go along with it all, and I've made major progress. That is to say, I'm ok with other people eating with their hands. But you'll never see me touch that pizza."

"Life in the slammer has never been better since the warden instituted Lunch of Fate every Thursday. Sure, it would be nice if there was more than just the mess hall and the vending machine on the Wheel of Fate, but I can't complain. Also, those modifiers are legit valuable. Last week I traded a Veto card for two packs of cigs and chisel!"
